Type Locality and Naming

By the village of Shuruk, Central Kyzylkum. I.M. Abdazimova, E.M. Shvetsova, 1987 (27, pp. 56-57). Stratotype 1.5 km south of the village of Shuruk, on the southern slope of Mt. Kuldyktau.

Synonym: Shuruk Suite, Шурукская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Marine greenish-gray clays, yellowish-orange siltstone (aleurolites) with interlayers of sands and sandstones. Thickness 5-25 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Uzunkuduk-LCret Fm

Upper contact

Overlain with erosion by the Donguztau Fm.

Regional extent

Central Kyzylkum, foothills of Kuldyktau, Auminzatau, Bukantau. Correlated with the upper part of the Akkaptchigai Fm and Shirabad Fm of the South-Western Gissar. (28)
